Bert A. Shefter, born on May 15, 1902 in Poltawa, Russian Empire, was an American-Russian composer and film maker. He studied at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Curtis Institute, and Damrosch Institute. Shefter's early career saw him forming the piano duo Gould and Shefter with Morton Gould, arranging classical pieces like "Flight of the Bumble-Bee" (1933) and "Fantaisie-Impromptu" (1934). He gained national recognition through radio broadcasts and theater performances, composing notable titles such as "The Lamp Is Low", "Tango in Tempo", and "Twilight Serenade". From the 1950s, Shefter focused on film composition, contributing to films like Kronos (1957), It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958), and I Am Legend (The Last Man on Earth) (1964). He also worked as a musical supervisor for TV series like Hawaiian Eye (1959–63) and Maverick (1957–62). Shefter retired in 1975 and died in 1999. His posthumous release, the album Sins of Jezebel, was released in 2020.
