Devy Erlih, born on November 5, 1928, in Paris, France, was a violinist and teacher. He earned the first prize in violin at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1945 under Jules Boucherit and won the first grand prix of the 1955 Marguerite-Long-Jacques-Thibaud International Competition. Erlih's career included notable roles as a professor at the Conservatoire de Marseille from 1968 and founding Les Solistes de Marseille in 1973. He also taught at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris from 1982 to 1995. Erlih composed works such as Violostries (1964) with Bernard Parmegiani and the ballet La Robe de plumes (1965). He premiered pieces by composers including André Jolivet, Darius Milhaud, and Henri Tomasi. Erlih's life ended tragically on February 7, 2012, when he was struck by a truck while traveling to the École normale de musique de Paris for his classes.
