Weird War, an American indie rock band formed in Washington D.C. in 2001, initially served as an umbrella organization for various anti-authoritarian groups. The band's first release was "I'll Never Forget What's His Name", featuring Neil Hagerty and Jessica Espeleta on guitars, and Steve McCarty on drums. Following lineup changes and a brief stint as The Scene Creamers, the group reverted to Weird War in 2003. Their debut album Weird War was released in August 2002 through Drag City. Subsequent albums include If You Can't Beat 'Em, Bite 'Em (2004) and Illuminated by The Light (2005). Notable songs from their discography include "AK-47" and "Girls Like That". Weird War's music often addresses political themes and cultural narratives.
