Arthur Weisberg was an American clarinetist, composer, author, and bassoonist born in 1931 in New York City. He graduated from The High School of Music & Art in 1948 and held principal chairs with the Houston and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. He studied conducting with Jean Morel and was the principal bassoonist for the Symphony of the Air. He conducted the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. Weisberg founded and conducted the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble and held teaching posts at the Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music. He recorded 20th-century works by Schoenberg, Varèse, Messiaen, Elliott Carter, and George Crumb. He authored the books The Art of Wind Playing and Performing 20th Century Music-a Handbook for Conductors and Instrumentalists. He passed away in 2009.
