The Funeral Pyre was an American blackened death metal band from La Habra, California. Formed in 2001 by guitarist James Joyce, keyboardist Daniella Jones, vocalist John Strachan, drummer Alex Hernandez, and bassist Adam Campbell, the group initially went by the name Envilent. They released several demos before changing their name to The Funeral Pyre prior to the 2003 release of their EP October. Their first full-length album, Immersed by the Flames of Mankind, was released in 2004. In 2006, they released their second full-length album The Nature of Betrayal, which was re-released in March 2007 through Prosthetic Records after initial internet-based sales enabled a distribution deal. The band's third album, Wounds, was released in May 2008, marking their full embrace of black metal. Their fourth and final studio album, Vultures at Dawn, was released in June 2010 by Prosthetic Records. The Funeral Pyre disbanded in 2012.
