Robert Van Sice is an American marimba player recognized for his expertise in percussion performance and pedagogy. In 1989, he gave the first solo marimba recital at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. His recording career includes the 1990 release Hovhaness, Klatzow, Nuyts: Marimba Concertos and the 1992 album Japanese Music for Marimba. Van Sice has collaborated with major instrument manufacturers to develop a signature line of mallets for Vic Firth and a line of marimbas for Adams Musical Instruments. He has held teaching positions at the Rotterdam Conservatorium and the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. Van Sice holds faculty positions at the Yale School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music. His influence as an educator is reflected in the work of his former students, who include members of the percussion ensemble So Percussion.
