Mamar Kassey, a jazz-pop-ethnic band from Niger, was formed in 1995 by singer and flautist Yacouba Moumouni and guitarist Abdallah Alhassane. The group combines traditional Zarma-Songhai, Hausa, and Fula rhythms with modern instruments like the electric bass and incorporates western jazz, Moroccan, and Latin music influences. Mamar Kassey gained international attention after performing at the Festival des Nuits Atypiques in Langon, France, in 1998. Albums include Denké-Denké (1999) and Taboussizé - Niger (2013). The band toured extensively across Europe and the United States. In 2004-2005, members collaborated with Breton folk musicians under the name Makida Palabre.
