Birds of Maya, a rock band from Philadelphia, United States, was formed in 2004 and consisted of guitarist Mike Polizze, bassist Jason Killinger, and drummer Ben Leaphart. Birds of Maya released their debut album Vol. 1 in 2008, which included recordings from 2004 to 2006. Their second album, Ready to Howl, was released in April 2010. The band also notably collaborated with Harmonica Dan on the single "Regulation", released exclusively during their tour. In 2013, Birds of Maya released their third studio album, Celebration. After a hiatus, the band returned in 2021 with Valdez, which received critical acclaim and was included on Pitchfork's 31 Best Rock Albums of 2021 list.
