The Kominas, a Taqwacore punk rock band, were formed in 2005 by two Pakistani-Americans from Worcester, Massachusetts. They gained initial attention through self-released songs on MySpace, leading to national news coverage. Their debut album, Wild Nights in Guantanamo Bay, was released in 2008. The Kominas adopted the label "Taqwacore," inspired by Michael Muhammad Knight's novel, which led to extensive international tours and media attention. Notable songs include "Tunnnnnn", a re-interpretation of Willie Williams' "Armagideon Time" with lyrics in English, Urdu, and Punjabi, and "No Fun", released as a single in 2017. The band's political activism includes supporting the Farmer's Protests in Punjab, India, through online fundraisers in 2020 and 2021.
