Hector Costita (born October 27, 1934) is an Argentine-born musician and composer from Buenos Aires. He became one of Brazil's most renowned flutists and saxophonists, performing and recording with luminaries such as Lalo Schifrin, Gato Barbieri, Michel Legrand, Ray Conniff, Burt Bacharach, Manfredo Fest, João Donato, Sérgio Mendes, Zimbo Trio, Hermeto Pascoal, and Elis Regina among many others.
Hector "Costita" Bisignani emerged as a key figure in Brazilian jazz after moving to São Paulo in the late 1950s. Known for his work with Sérgio Mendes' Sexteto Bossa Rio and his influential album Impacto, Costita helped blend jazz with Brazilian rhythms. He is also respected as a dedicated music teacher. Costita's career spans over 70 years, making him a true pioneer in Latin American jazz.
Aged 92, Hector still play live to this day.
Originally released by Som Da Gente, 1981 is a grooving fusion of baião rhythms, jazz funk, and Brazilian soul. Featuring his Gallery club band, Costita soars on sax, flute, and clarone, backed by Roberto Bomilcar and Dirceu. Recorded with full creative freedom, this rare LP captures the free spirit of Brazil's '70s & '80s jazz scene.
