The D4 were a garage‑rock group formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1998 by vocalist‑guitarists Dion Palmer and Jimmy Christmas, who recruited founding members Jake English and Rich Mixture to create a four‑piece ensemble. The band’s first release was an EP in 1999 on Flying Nun Records, featuring the single "Girl" and "Come On!", which established their raw, high‑energy style and secured a spot on the label’s roster. In 2001 the group issued their debut studio album 6Twenty under Flying Nun Records, followed by Out of My Head in 2005. Throughout this period the D4 signed to Hollywood Records for U.S. distribution and Infectious Records for the U.K., and toured extensively, supporting the Hives in the United Kingdom and performing at the Big Day Out and SXSW in Austin. Their single "Sake Bomb" (2004) and tracks such as "Get Loose" and "Party" received airplay on alternative rock stations. The band announced an indefinite break in May 2006 after eight years of activity; the group disbanded that same year, with members pursuing solo projects and other bands. The D4’s catalog remains a notable contribution to New Zealand’s garage‑rock scene.
