Jimmy Lee Swaggart, born on March 15, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana, United States, was an American gospel music artist and televangelist. He began his career in 1960, recording gospel music albums and transmitting on Christian radio stations. Swaggart's music career spanned several decades, with his work focusing on Southern gospel and inspirational music. He launched a television ministry that included a fairly large music segment, and he sold over 15 million records worldwide as a gospel artist. Notable albums from his discography include Somewhere Listenin' (1978), Christmas Spirit (1978) and Worship (1980). In 1981, he received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Gospel Performance, Traditional for his album Worship. Swaggart died on July 1, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
