Radio Birdman is an Australian punk rock band formed in 1974 in Sydney. The group was founded by Deniz Tek and Rob Younger after they left their previous projects, TV Jones and the Rats. The original lineup included keyboardist Philip 'Pip' Hoyle, drummer Ron Keeley and bassist Carl Rorke. In 1977, the band released the EP Burn My Eye and their debut studio album, Radios Appear. The record was produced by John Sayers and Charles Fisher and received a five-star review in Rolling Stone Australia. The album was later licensed by Sire Records for a wider release and reached number 51 on the Australian charts. The ensemble recorded the album Living Eyes in 1978 though it was not released until 1981 following the group's initial breakup. The band reformed in 1996 and subsequently toured and released the album Zeno Beach (2006) through their own label, Crying Sun Records. The record was dedicated to the memory of Rorke. The group was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007 and was the subject of the 2017 documentary Descent into the Maelstrom – The Radio Birdman Story. In 2020, the band was ranked number 44 in Rolling Stone Australia's list of the 50 Greatest Australian Artists of All Time. The ensemble celebrated its 50th anniversary with a tour in 2024.
