Band of Oz, a prominent US musical ensemble from Greenville, North Carolina, formed in the mid-1960s with high school students. The band turned professional in the early 1970s. In 1978, they released their first single "Shaggin'" followed by "Star of My Life" in 1979, which gained national radio airplay. Throughout the 1980s, Band of Oz performed extensively with significant personnel changes. The band gained wider recognition in 1995 with the release of the hit single "Shama Lama Ding Dong", named People's Choice Song of the Year at that year’s Cammy Awards and one of the most requested beach songs of all time. In 1997, they were inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame. Notable albums include Let It Roll (1995) and Ones You Might Have Missed (2017).
