The Gufs, an American pop and rock band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, formed in 1988. The group initially included Goran Kralj, Scott Schwebel, Dejan Kralj, and Tony Luna. They released their debut album Staring Into the Sun in 1991, followed by Songs of Life in 1992. After a lineup change that brought in Morgan Dawley after the departure of Luna, The Gufs gained momentum performing throughout Milwaukee. Their second-place finish at Marquette University's battle of the bands in 1991 marked a significant breakthrough. They released several independent label records before signing with Atlantic Records and notable albums include Collide (1995), The Gufs (1996), and Holiday From You (1999). The band's tour with Matchbox Twenty led to Rob Thomas singing backup on "Give Back Yourself" from the latter album. Despite their success, the band disbanded in 1999, citing disillusionment with the music industry and concerns that Atlantic had not adequately promoted the album. They reunited in 2006 and released A Different Sea.
