Marty Haggard was born on June 18, 1958, in Bakersfield, California, while his father, Merle Haggard, was incarcerated. Raised by his grandmother, he later moved in with his father at age 12. As a teenager, he pursued acting but survived a near-fatal shooting. In 1979, he began a country music career, briefly joining his father’s band before signing with MTM Records in 1985. After a car accident ended his mainstream career, he shifted to country gospel, releasing Borders & Boundaries in 1995. Later, he dedicated himself to music ministry and recorded tribute albums honoring his father’s legacy.
