Hugh Blumenfeld, born on October 11, 1958, in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, is an American folk musician and singer-songwriter. He graduated from M.I.T. in 1980 and earned a master's degree from the University of Chicago in 1981. Blumenfeld was active in the Greenwich Village music scene in the 1980s, performing at venues like Folk City and Speak Easy while pursuing a PhD from New York University. His first album, The Strong in Spirit, was released in 1987. In 1993, his album Barehanded became the inaugural release of Prime-CD. Blumenfeld gained national attention with Mozart's Money (1995), which received positive reviews and indie radio airplay. He continued to tour extensively in the Northeast and Midwest. In 2003, he enrolled in medical school at the University of Connecticut, becoming an MD and practicing family medicine in Hartford while performing as part of a folk quintet, the Faithful Sky.
