The Bastardz, a Croatian funk band with jazz and pop influences, was founded in 1990 by guitarist Zoran Jaeger Jex. The original lineup included Jex on electric guitar, Zvonimir Bučević on bass guitar, Goran Markić on drums, Alan Bjelinski on keyboards, and Miha Hawlina on tenor saxophone. They performed at local clubs in Zagreb and were the house band on the TV show Top-Cup. The band initially disbanded in 1991 but reunited in 1995 with a new lineup featuring Helena Bastić on vocals. Their album Your Love, released that year, included the hit song "Tvoja Ljubav", which topped the Croatian charts and won them the Porin discography award for Debut of the Year in 1996, among others. The Bastardz continued to release albums such as The Groove Resistance (1998), Chronological (2003), and The Bastardz 6 (2010). They have also notably collaborated with Joseph Bowie of DEFUNKT and performed at numerous jazz festivals.
