Bio Ritmo is an American salsa band from Richmond, Virginia, that formed in 1991. The eight- to ten-member ensemble is led by Marlysse Simmons and is known for a classic Nuyorican salsa sound that blends African Caribbean rhythms with electronica and big band brass. They emerged from the Virginia college band scene and won the Disc Makers Independent Music World Series Northeast finals in 2004, where they were named Top Independent Act in the Northeast. Their discography includes the studio albums Que Siga la Musica (1996), Salsa Galactica (1997), Rumba Baby Rumba! (1998), and the eponymous Bio Ritmo (2004). They subsequently released the EP Salsa System (2006) and the albums Bionico (2008) and La Verdad (2011). The latter recording featured the singles “Dina's Mambo” (2011) and “La Muralla” (2011).
