George Darko, born on January 12, 1951 in Akropong, Ghana, was a burger-highlife singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, and musician. He began his career playing for an army band before forming the Golden Stool Band in the late 1960s. George Darko's breakthrough came with "Ako Te Brofo" in 1983, which became a timeless highlife track. In the late 1970s, his band moved to Germany, where he went solo and formed the Bus Stop band in 1982. George Darko returned to Akropong in 1988. Throughout his career, he released several albums including Hi Life Time (1984), Highlife in the Air (1994), and Odo Colour (2004). He received the VGMA Lifetime Award for Outstanding Contribution to Highlife in 2020. George Darko passed away on March 20, 2024 at the age of 73.
