Zounds, an English anarcho punk/post-punk band from Reading, Berkshire, formed in 1977 around vocalist and bassist Steve Lake. The group emerged from jam sessions with various musicians, incorporating influences ranging from the Velvet Underground to the Sex Pistols. Their first EP, Can't Cheat Karma, was released on Crass Records in 1980, featuring the track "Subvert". This release marked a significant breakthrough, increasing their profile within the anarcho-punk scene and leading to collaborations with bands like Crass and The Mob. Zounds' debut album, The Curse of Zounds, followed in 1981 on Rough Trade Records. Notable singles include "Demystification" and "More Trouble Coming Every Day". After disbanding in late 1982, the band reformed in 2007 and released new material, including the album The Redemption of Zounds in 2011. The band split up again in 2025, playing their final show in Search For The Sun festival in Montreal on November 1, 2025.
