Rolly Teranishi, born Kazuo Teranishi on 6 September 1963 in Kyoto, Japan, is a Japanese guitarist, singer, and producer who emerged from the Osaka music scene. After honing his skills on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, he became the lead guitarist and vocalist for the rock band Scanch, contributing to a series of releases such as Scanch’n’Roll Show (1988) and Historic Grammar (1996). The band dissolved in 1996, prompting Rolly Teranishi to launch a solo career that saw the 1996 release of the album ROLLY'S ROCKROLLY, followed by singles "SAMURAI" (2001) and "マリオネット" (2008). His solo work expanded into soundtrack contributions, notably performing the third ending theme "Deep Breath" for Kamen Rider Agito in 2002, and providing the Japanese voice for Tamatoa in the dub of Moana. Rolly Teranishi has also appeared in films such as Suicide Circle (2002) and the video game Drag‑on Dragoon 2. In 2006, the former members of Scanch reunited for two concerts, later released as Scanch’n’Roll Show II. Throughout his career, Rolly Teranishi has maintained a steady presence in Japan’s rock and world‑music scenes, with his releases charting in the national singles and albums lists and his collaborations earning recognition within the industry.
