Heavyweight Dub Champion (also known as HDC) is a music and art collective from San Francisco, California. The group was founded in Gold Hill, Colorado, in 1997 by Resurrector and Patch. The collective's musical style is rooted in electronic music, utilizing acoustic instruments with synthetic and electronic elements. The group released its debut studio album, Survival Guide For The End of Time, in 2002 through their label, Champion Nation Recordings. The album was recorded in Colorado and Los Angeles and was awarded the Editors Pick for Best Local Recording by Denver's Westword Magazine in 2003. In 2005, the collective relocated to San Francisco, though its rotating lineup has included members from New York, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The band released a second studio album, Rise Of The Champion Nation, in 2009. The project featured guest appearances from KRS-One, Killah Priest, and Dr. Israel. The group's live performances, which they title Sonic Shamanistic Alchemy or The Liberation Process, incorporate a large amount of vintage analog and electronic gear to create a "shamanistic wall of hip hopdubtronica". In 2011, the collective also collaborated with the dubstep artist Liquid Stranger on the tracks "Rise" and "Babylon Beast".
