Uncanny Alliance was an American house music duo formed in New York City by producer Brinsley Evans and vocalist E.V. Mystique, whose collaborative chemistry emerged in the early 1990s. Their breakthrough came with the 1992 club hit "I Got My Education", a response to Crystal Waters’ "Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)", which entered United Kingdom club playlists and reached Number 39 on the United Kingdom Singles Chart in December 1992, sparking a bidding war that culminated in a contract with A&M Records. In 1994 the duo released their sole album, The Groove Won’t Bite, which spawned the single "I’m Beautiful Dammitt!"; the track later gained wider acclaim when Bette Midler covered it for her Bathhouse Betty album, reaching Number 1 on the United States dance chart and Number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100, with Brinsley Evans co‑producing the version. A bootlegged surge of "I Got My Education" prompted a re‑issued single featuring "Bootlegger Response" remixes, wherein the chorus was altered to “Illegal Duplication.” After 1994, Uncanny Alliance withdrew from public view and released no further material. Their song "Happy Day" was later featured in the 1996 film Happy Gilmore.
