Ms.OOJA, born on 28 October 1982 in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, Japan, is a J‑pop singer‑songwriter whose career began while working in a clothing store and performing in Nagoya’s club scene. After learning dance and singing, she debuted as an independent artist in July 2006, then relocated to Nagoya to pursue music full time. Her breakthrough came with the single "Be…" in 2011, which sold 15 000 copies and reached Number 20 on the Oricon weekly chart. In 2012 she released the studio album Heart, which debuted at Number One on the daily Oricon chart, remained in the weekly top ten for 17 weeks, and marked her first chart‑topping album. The same year she issued Voice and Life, while Be… later earned double‑platinum certification in April 2016 for 500 000 legal downloads. Ms.OOJA signed with Universal Music Japan after a 2009 collaboration with the rap duo El Latino & Ms.OOJA and the studio album Impact.
