The Sour Notes, an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas, was formed in 2008 by multi-instrumentalist Jared Boulanger. Initially a moniker for Boulanger's home recordings, the band released their debut EP The Meat of the Fruit on May 24, 2008. The following year, they moved to Austin and began performing live, releasing their first album Received in Bitterness (2009). In January 2010, they released It's Not Gonna Be Pretty, which featured keyboardist Elaine Greer and followed by a tour of the East Coast. Their third album, Last Looks (2011), showcased orchestral arrangements by Mother Falcon. The band gained further recognition with the release of Do What May in September 2014, featuring guest musician Sabrina Ellis. In November 2017, they released their fifth album, Darkest Sour. Notable performances include appearances at CMJ, SXSW, and Fun Fun Fest, as well as sharing stages with The Dandy Warhols and Foxygen.
