Zomby Woof is a German progressive rock band from Reutlingen, formed during the 1970s. The band consisted of Ulrich Herter, Heinrich Winter, Matthias Zumbroich, Udo Kreuß, and Berthold Maier. The band derived its name from the song “Zomby Woof” by Frank Zappa’s group, The Mothers of Invention. Their musical style was characterized as a complex form of symphonic rock, drawing comparisons to early Genesis and Yes. A distinctive element of their sound was the use of a Mellotron, which the group borrowed specifically for their studio sessions. The band released its debut studio album, Riding on a Tear, in 1977 through the Jupiter label. In 1979, the group recorded a second album titled No Hero, featuring the guest vocalist David Hanselmann. This recording remained unreleased until 2009, when it was published by Casino Records.
