Michael Hornstein (born September 29, 1962) was a German jazz saxophonist, composer, and music producer from Konstanz. Known for blending jazz with electronic club culture, Hornstein studied music at the Musikhochschule Graz from 1979 to 1982 before receiving a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in 1983. Hornstein worked with musicians including Fred Braceful, Sunny Murray, and Albert Mangelsdorff. In the early 1990s, he explored the spectrum between jazz and electronic music, releasing the solo albums Langsames Blau (1993) and Innocent Green (1996). His compositions “Carma” (2007) and “Boom Boom” (2011) appeared on the Café del Mar compilations. Hornstein also produced international folklore and released later recordings including Ellington Now (2019) and Conversations Now (2023).
