Gonga, a British stoner metal band from Bristol, was formed in 1998 by guitarist George Elgie and his brother Thomas on drums. The band's early lineup saw multiple changes at the bass position before Joe Volk joined as vocalist in 2001. This addition caught the attention of producer Geoff Barrow, who signed Gonga to his label Invada Records. Their debut album Gonga was released in 2003 and featured William Smalley on bass. In 2008, their second album II: Transmigration was released, but Volk left shortly afterward to join Crippled Black Phoenix. Matt Williams briefly replaced him before also departing. Since then, Gonga has continued as an instrumental band with Latch Manghat on bass. Their third album Concrescence, was released in 2013 under Tonehenge Recordings.
