Caroline Herring, born December 10, 1969, in Canton, Mississippi, is an American folk and country singer, songwriter, and musician. She began her professional career as a graduate student at the University of Mississippi, co-founding Thacker Mountain Radio. In 1999, Herring moved to Austin, Texas, and released her debut album Twilight in 2001, earning the Best New Artist award at the SXSW Austin Music Awards. Her subsequent albums include Wellspring (2003), Lantana (2008), and Golden Apples of the Sun (2009). Herring's work has been recognized by various publications, including The Austin Chronicle naming Wellspring one of the top ten albums of 2005. In 2011, she was selected as the only American participant in The Cecil Sharp Project and released her first children's album, The Little House Songs, which won the Coleen Salley Storytelling Award at the Fay Kaigler Children's Book Festival. Herring has performed at notable festivals such as the Newport Folk Festival and Merlefest.
