Born Maria Altagracia Ramos Bernavel in the Dominican Republic on January 11, 1986, Canadian singer Marie-Luce Béland grew up in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, where she was adopted at an early age. She was noticed at an audition on her 18th birthday, and began her career as a professional singer. After landing the lead role in the musical Kassa, she released the French-language pop-rock album À l'Envers in 2007, featuring the hit single "Pleine lune", which reached No. 78 on the Canadian Billboard Top 100 Singles chart in the summer of 2008. In 2021, Marie-Luce Béland released the album Chrysalide, featuring the single "Roméo".
