Rutger Zuydervelt, known professionally as Machinefabriek, was born on July 28, 1978, in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Initially trained in graphic design rather than music, he began his musical career under the name Machinefabriek in 2004. His first release, Marijn (2006), came out on Lampse Records. Throughout his career, Zuydervelt released numerous albums and singles, including Dauw (2008) and Stroomtoon (2012). He collaborated with various artists such as Peter Broderick, Gareth Davis, and Hilary Jeffery, and performed internationally in countries like Russia, Japan, and England. His work included genres such as ambient, contemporary, minimalist, drone, and field recordings, often incorporating his graphic design skills into the artwork for his releases. Other notable releases include Bijeen (2007), Blank Grey Canvas Sky with Peter Broderick (2009), Drape with Gareth Davis (2010), Entropia (2019), and Cassina (2020).
