Daníel Bjarnason, born 26 February 1979 in Iceland, is a composer and conductor whose early training in composition, piano and conducting in Reykjavik led him to further studies at the University of Music Freiburg. He gained prominence with his debut album Processions (2010), praised by Time Out NY for its forward-looking classical sound. Subsequent releases—Sólaris (2011), Over Light Earth (2013), and Djúpið (2017)—were issued on Bedroom Community and earned him Icelandic Music Awards, including Composer of the Year (2013) and Best Classical CD for Over Light Earth (2013). Bjarnason has composed for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, served as resident composer at the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra (2015-2018), and collaborated with Ben Frost, Sigur Rós and Brian Eno, while conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and John Adams have premiered his works.
