The prolific British indie-rock performer and author Jim Bob was born James Neil Morrison in London on November 22, 1960. He began gigging in various bands as a teenager, eventually becoming a member of Jamie Wednesday and then the lead singer of the punk act Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine. He launched a solo career in 2001 with JR, which was credited to James Rovert Morrison. That same year he founded the ongoing side project Jim’s Super Stereoworld. He continued to perform live as a solo act and with various other collaborators while issuing LP’s such as 2003’s Goodnight Jim Bob and 2007’s A Humpty Dumpty Thing. He tipped his interest in storytelling with 2009’s Goffam, a concept album about a city abandoned by its superheroes. He published his debut novel Storage Stories in 2010, and an autobiography, Goodnight Jim Bob, in 2012. That same year also saw the release of his second novel, Driving Jarvis Ham. He returned to music with 2013’s What I Thins About When I Think About You. He would publish two more novels before the release of the 2016 LP Jim Bob Sings Again. Another memoir as well as his fifth novel saw publication before his next album, 2020’s Pop Up Jim Bob. Twenty years into his solo career, Jim Bob returned to the top 40 of the UK album chart with 2021’s Who Do We Hate Today? The following year, he collected some of his greatest moments to date in a best-of collection, The Essential Jim Bob, which gathers tracks from albums including Angelstrike! (2004), A Humpty Dumpty Thing (2007), Goffam (2009), and others. Riding high on the success of his 2021 comeback, he dropped another new album in 2023, Thanks for Reaching Out.
