Mike Huckaby was an American DJ and electronic music producer born on 4 January 1966 in Detroit. He began collecting rock records at age 10 and started performing his own sets in 1988. Between 1992 and 2005, he worked at the record store Record Time in Roseville, Michigan, where he served as a buyer for the dance room. He began his professional DJ career in 1995, blending Detroit techno with groovy and jazzy sounds. His debut release was the EP Deep Transportation Vol. 1 (1995), followed by The Jazz Republic (1997). He established the labels Deep Transportation for deep house and S Y N T H for techno. His other recordings include Harmonie Park Classics Vol. 1 (2002) and My Life With the Wave (2007). In 2007, Huckaby played a central role in founding the YouthVille youth center in Detroit, where he mentored young people including Kyle Hall in electronic music production. He died on 24 April 2020 in Detroit following complications from a stroke and COVID-19.
