Paul Murphy, known professionally as Skratch Bastid, was born on September 2, 1982, in Bedford, Nova Scotia. He is a Canadian DJ and record producer who initially played euphonium in high school. His rise to prominence began with his victory at the Scribble Jam DJ Battle in 2003, and he later won the competition again in 2004 and 2007. In 2005, he released Taking Care of Business, a collaborative album with John Smith and Pip Skid on his own label First Things First Records. He was the first Canadian DJ to be nominated for the Juno Award for Producer of the Year in 2008 for his work on Buck 65's album Situation. In 2016, he received another Juno nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year for his collaborative project with Afiara String Quartet titled Spin Cycle. Skratch Bastid has also appeared as a featured artist on tracks and EPs, including "ICQ" on TWRP's 2nite EP.
