Jon Wayne

Jon Wayne was a recording alias of musician, producer, and studio engineer David Vaught. The eponymous parody country band Jon Wayne was formed by Vaught in Los Angeles during the 1980s. Their debut album, Texas Funeral (1985), featured an intentionally ramshackle sound and lyrics parodying various Texan stereotypes, which helped it become a cult classic over time. Director Quentin Tarantino became an early fan of the album and featured "Texas Funeral" in Robert Rodriguez's film From Dusk till Dawn. Jon Wayne continued to perform occasionally throughout the 1990s and 2000s, releasing their second studio album Two Graduated Jiggers (2000). In 2010, Texas Funeral was reissued on LP by Jack White's Third Man Records. David Vaught passed away from pancreatic cancer on March 20, 2013.
