Azar Lawrence, born on November 3, 1952, is an American jazz saxophonist. He began his musical journey under the mentorship of Herbert Baker. Lawrence's career took off when he released Bridge Into the New Age on Prestige Records in 1974. In 1975, he released Summer Solstice, produced by Orrin Keepnews. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with prominent artists such as McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Woody Shaw. Lawrence's contributions as a sideman are also notable, appearing on albums by Mulatu Astatke, Henry Butler, and Elvin Jones. His album, New Sky, was released in 2022.
