Lower Dens was an American rock group from Baltimore, Maryland. Formed in 2010 by Jana Hunter, Geoff Graham, Abram Sanders and Will Adams, the band initially began as a backing group for Hunter's solo performances. Their debut album, Twin-Hand Movement, was released in 2010 via Gnomonsong. The band's sophomore album, Nootropics, was released in 2012 through Domino Recording Company’s Ribbon Music and received positive reviews from major publications, including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Spin. Their third album, Escape From Evil, came out in 2015 via Ribbon Music. Lower Dens' fourth album, The Competition, was released in 2019. The band opened for Beach House and Yo La Tengo at the Baltimore stop of the latter's Fade tour in April 2013. On December 8, 2021, Lower Dens announced their breakup.
