Marc Dorsey, born Marc‑Dewaine Hample Dorsey in 1971 in Washington, D.C., is an American R&B singer who emerged from the New York music scene. He first attracted attention with a cover of "People Make the World Go Round" for Spike Lee’s 1994 film Crooklyn, a track that appeared on the soundtrack and introduced him to a wider audience. In 1999, Dorsey signed with Jive Records and released his debut studio album Crave on August 10, 1999; the album was produced by Timmy Allen, Larry Campbell and Manuel Seal and produced three charting singles, including "If You Really Wanna Know" and "All I Do". His career peaked in 2002 when he featured on LL Cool J’s single "Luv U Better", which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards. That same year, he also appeared on Jay‑Z’s track "A Ballad for the Fallen Soldier" alongside Pharrell Williams, both songs produced by the Neptunes. Dorsey’s work has been noted for its blend of rap and R&B, and his contributions to film soundtracks and commercial jingles have cemented his role as a versatile vocalist in late‑1990s and early‑2000s American music.
