Lucenzo is a Franco-Portuguese singer and songwriter born on May 27, 1983 in France. Coming from a family of musicians, it was natural for him to learn to play the piano at a very young age. It was quickly discovered that he had an incredible ear for music which accorded him the ability to instantly reproduce any melody he heard with such ease and grace. With a Dionysian passion, he pursued this innate gift, perfecting this unique music tool over the years. He only took up singing later, which made him into the outstanding musician he is today. He is mainly influenced by Latin and Lusophone music. He started playing Portuguese music as a tribute to his ancestry. As the youngest in a family of three brothers, they had an important role in enriching and influencing his adolescent life. From Hip Hop to Funk via the Reggae, he forges a very broad musical culture.
In 1998, he made his first foray into Hip Hop, single-handedly composing and writing an EP, that achieved great success in the Portuguese community. In 2007, he signed to a record label and his career at this stage took a turn as his Latin influences took over. He released his first single Emigrante Del Mundo and followed this up with Dame Reggaeton, both of which shot to number 1 on Radio Latina (the largest Latin radio station in France), making him a household name among the Latin community in France.
His big break finally arrived in 2010, with his title track Vem Dançar Kuduro, a collaboration with the New York rapper, Big Ali. A totally innovative piece never heard before, it exploded on the entertainment scene, transforming the music landscape. From the innovative beats, mongrel music style, Lucenzo broke all paradigms and with a master stroke imposed his own music genre. The Lucenzo style was officially born and the single hit number 1 in France. It was also positioned on the top charts in Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark Canada. Further it returned to the top 10 of the European Hot 100 rankings.
Driven by this incredible success in Europe, Lucenzo followed his dreams, crossing the Atlantic to conquer Latin America. To achieve the latter, he decided to appeal to the Puerto Rican star of Reggaeton, Don Omar. This collaboration gave birth to the Latin version of Vem Dancar Kuduro, titled Danza Kuduro.
This was the defining moment, as everything accelerated exponentially thereafter. The success was immediate, setting new world records and transforming Lucenzo into a global music star. On its release, it became the best-selling Latin song in the world and the Music video became the most viewed Latin music video of all time on YouTube. Danza Kuduro set multiple new records. On Billboard’s Latin Digital songs category, it remained at number 1 for a record-breaking 32 consecutive weeks, 29 weeks on the Latin Rhythm Airplay and 15 weeks on the Hot Latin Songs category. Something that had never been achieved before by a Latin Song. This earned him 7 Billboard Awards over 3 consecutive years, a Grammy nomination and the BMI Award in the category Pop Latin Songs. The Billboard magazine crowned Danza Kuduro, the Tropical Top Song of All Time. In 2011, the title was further chosen as the soundtrack of the Hollywood Blockbuster Fast & Furious 5.
With more than 6 million sales and over 1 billion views on YouTube to date, this song is in the record books of history as undeniably a Latin classic.
That same year he released his album Emigrante Del Mundo and the single Baila Morena followed up in 2012 with the hit single Wine it up, a collaboration with the global Dancehall star, Sean Paul. Thus positioning both singles to once again top the charts in Europe.
Lucenzo is currently preparing a new album whose first single will be released in 2020.
