Kinesis was formed in Bolton, England, in September 2000 by Michael Bromley (vocals, guitar), Neil Chow (drums, vocals), Tom Marshall (bass guitar, vocals) and Conor McGloin (guitar); the members were aged 16 to 18 at the time. Their first release was the self‑issued EP The Flowers Are Dead in December 2000, followed by the mini‑album Worship Yourself in February 2001 on the band’s own White Noise Recordings label, which attracted attention from Kerrang! and other UK music press. In 2002 the group signed with Independiente and issued their debut full‑length album Handshakes For Bullets on 29 September 2003; the record included tracks that addressed subjects such as NAFTA and euthanasia, and the band toured the UK and performed internationally at the CMJ festival in New York, SXSW in Texas, and in Tokyo, supporting acts including Linkin Park, Muse, and Biffy Clyro. Mid‑2004 the band left Independiente, and on 1 June 2005 they released their second album You Are Being Lied to on Captains of Industry, produced by the band on a limited budget; the release coincided with the group’s amicable split, and several songs from the album were never performed live. Kinesis disbanded in June 2005.
