Balance is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in the early 1980s, fronted by Peppy Castro and including guitarist Bob Kulick and keyboardist Doug Katsaros. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1981 under Portrait Records, featured the hit single "Breaking Away", which peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US and reached number 35 in Canada's RPM charts. The band's follow-up single, "Falling in Love", peaked at number 58 in the US. In early 1982, Balance entered The Power Station to produce their sophomore album, In For The Count, with Tony Bongiovi engineering and co-producing. However, due to a massive house cleaning at CBS, Epic, and Portrait, the band lost their supporters at the label, and In For The Count became a casualty of the turnover. Despite this setback, Balance experienced one last hurrah when they were asked to write "Ride the Wave" for a major Japanese commercial. After a short tour in Japan, the band disbanded due to lack of interest from their label and management company. In 2009, Italian label Frontiers Records released Equilibrium, featuring original core members Kulick, Castro, and Katsaros, along with drummer Brett Chassen. Bob Kulick died on May 28, 2020, at age 70.
