Ríta Abatzí, born in 1914 in Smyrna (now İzmir), Ottoman Empire, was a Greek singer known for her contributions to rebetiko music. She began her career in the early 1930s and quickly became one of the most popular female singers of rebetiko during that decade. Abatzí's recordings from this period include collaborations with notable musicians such as Kostas Skarvelis, Spyros Peristeris, Dimitrios Semsis, Markos Vamvakaris, and Vassilis Tsitsanis. Her career spanned through the 1930s and into the early 1940s, but it ended after World War II. Abatzí's discography includes several notable albums such as Rita Abatzi Recordings 1933 - 1938 (released in 1996) and Rita Abatzi Vol. 2: Recordings 1932 - 1950 (released in 2004). She passed away on June 17, 1969, in Egaleo, Athens. Her sister, Sofia Karivali, was also a notable singer of rebetiko.
