Reverend D. C. Rice, born circa 1888 in Barbour County, Alabama, was an American preacher and singer. Raised as a Baptist, he moved to Chicago during World War I and joined The Church of the Living God, Pentecostal. His music featured sermons with singing and congregational responses, characterized by blues inflections and instrumental accompaniment. In March 1928, Reverend D. C. Rice made his first recordings for the Vocalion label in Chicago. Over the next two years, he recorded a total of 28 sides, including "The Angels Rolled the Stone Away" (1928) and "Lord Keep Me With a Mind" (1928). Reverend D. C. Rice continued his religious career as a preacher and bishop. His 1928-30 recordings have been reissued on LP and CD.
