The Central Band of the Canadian Forces was established in 1940 as the Central Band of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Initially formed to support the RCAF, the band became part of the unified Canadian Armed Forces in 1968 and was renamed the Central Band in 1970. The band's first notable performance was at a NATO festival in 1968. Under Lieutenant Commander William J. Gordon, it gained prominence by performing with the United States Army Field Band in 1970. The Central Band has released several albums, including Canada Remembers (1996) and The Central Band in Concert (2019). It has performed for Canadian royalty, the Governor General of Canada, the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as foreign heads of state.
