Markus Wormstorm, born Markus V Smit in 1981 in South Africa, is an electronic musician. He received classical piano training at 12 and began his career on Cape Town's electronic music circuit after moving there in 2001. His first album Rachel the Bear was released in 2006 under Sound Ink NY records. Wormstorm has collaborated with various artists, including MF Doom (as Viktor Vaughn), Burna Boy, and Waddy & Yolandi from Die Antwoord. He scored numerous global campaigns for brands such as Nokia, Audi, and Star Wars, notably releasing "Aau’s Song" for the latter in 2023. Wormstorm has won several major international awards, including the Annecy Special Distinction Award (2006), the SAFTA Award for Best Original Score (2015), the Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music (2024).
