Georges Kiamuangana Mateta, known as Verckys, was a Congolese saxophonist, composer, and producer. Mateta was born in 1944 in Kisantu, Belgian Congo. Mateta began a musical career at 17 with the Los Cantina orchestra and later joined groups including Jamel National. In 1963, Mateta joined OK Jazz, where the artist performed saxophone solos on hits such as “Bolingo ya Bougie” and “Polo le Chipeur”. Mateta composed the songs “Chérie O Changer” and “Oh Madame de la Maison”. In 1969, Mateta left OK Jazz to form Orchestre Vévé. Mateta established Éditions Vévé, a record label that featured musicians including Zaïko Langa Langa and Koffi Olomide. Recordings include the compilation Verckys & L'Orchestre Veve, Congolese Funk, Afrobeat and Psychedelic Rumba 1969 - 1978 (2014). Mateta passed away in 2022.
