Reiner Süß, born February 2, 1930, in Chemnitz, Germany, was a bass singer. He studied under Hans Lissmann and joined the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig. In 1956, Süß debuted as Njegus in The Merry Widow at Bernburg. By 1959, he was part of the German State Opera, earning the title of chamber singer in 1962. Notable roles included Ochs auf Lerchenau in Der Rosenkavalier, Bartolo in The Barber of Seville, and Falstaff. Süß received the National Prize of the GDR in 1967 and performed at the Vienna State Opera and Paris Opera. He hosted the television show Da liegt Musike drin on DDR-Fernsehen from 1968 to 1985. His discography includes albums like "Liebe Alte Weisen" (1974), "Im Wald Und Auf Der Heide" (1976). Süß retired from major opera houses in 1998 but continued performing at smaller venues. He passed away on January 29, 2015, in Friedland (Mecklenburg).
