Irina Konstantinovna Arkhipova, born on January 2, 1925, in Moscow, was a Russian opera singer known for her roles as a mezzo-soprano. She initially studied architecture but shifted to vocal studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow under Leonid Savranski. Arkhipova made her debut as a soloist in 1954 and joined the Bolshoi Theatre in 1956. Her international tours began in 1955, taking her to countries including Austria, Poland, Germany, Italy, Japan, France, and Canada. She achieved significant acclaim in the 1960s and 1970s, performing roles such as Carmen and Marfa in Khovanshchina. Arkhipova also served on various international juries, including the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Glinka Competition. She taught at the Moscow Conservatory starting in 1975. Arkhipova passed away on February 11, 2010.
